All schools that receive waste and recycling services through the District contract with Republic Services are automatically registered to compete in the SDUSD Recycling Challenge. The criteria for award is based on a combination of school recycling and waste reduction efforts (overall diversion rate) and education and outreach efforts.

The Challenge runs from September 2019 - March 2020.

2018/2019 Recycling Challenge Winners

Congratulations to the winners of the 2018-19 Recycling Challenge!

Elementary/K-8 Schools:  

Winner:  Marvin (36.5% diversion) - $750

Runner-up:  Toler (35.4% diversion) - $500

Middle Schools:

Winner:  Taft (32.95% diversion) - $1,000

Runner-up:  Wangenheim (32.86% diversion) -$750

High Schools:

Winner:  Henry (40% diversion) - $1,250

Runner-up: University City (28% diversion) - $1,000

Most Improved:  

Carver Elementary (from 9.4% diversion last year to 19.9% this year) - $250

 

Winners were recognized at the April 23, 2019 Board of Education meeting.
