SDUSD Recycling Program

All schools that receive waste and recycling services through the District contract with Republic Services are automatically registered to compete in the SDUSD Recycling Challenge. The criteria for award is based on a combination of school recycling and waste reduction efforts (overall diversion rate) and education and outreach efforts.
The Challenge ran from September 2019 - March 2020.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2019-20 Recycling Challenge!
Elementary/K-8 Schools:
Winner: Sandburg (36.6% diversion) - $750
Runner-up: Marvin (36.0% diversion) - $500
Middle Schools:
Winner: Challenger (36.5% diversion) - $1,000
Runner-up: Taft (34.9% diversion) -$750
High Schools:
Winner: Henry (40.9% diversion) - $1,250
Runner-up: University City (30.9% diversion) - $1,000
Most Improved:
Lewis Middle (from 14.2% diversion last year to 22.5% this year) - $250
